•   Watch the setter- the setter is your number one indicator of where the ball is going to go once it is in play

•   Watch the player- Once the ball is in play, keeping your eye on the ball is a big mistake…play the man not the ball

•   Blocker mentality is key

Volleyball Side Out

Learning to volleyball side out is very important; making the kill and having the opportunity to serve is critical! Hi, I’m Eric Fonoimoana an Olympic gold medal champion at the 2000 games in Sydney, Australia! I have been a professional volleyball player for the past 18 years and a winner in the AVP tour 18 times. My career began when I was named MVP at UC Santa Barbara, and over my 18 year career I have reached the tours highest awards available.

In 2000 I started Dig 4 Kids, a charity that teaches kids the importance of exercise and education. The simplicity of being able to side out a volleyball has enabled me to become a professional volleyball player and participate in many different events, such as the Olympics. With these following six videos I aim to share with you tips that will allow you to achieve your very best in volleyball.

Eric Fonoimoana teaches the vertical jump when performing the volleyball side out. When siding out your vertical jump is very important when preparing yourself to make the kill for the side out. By swinging your arms back while jumping up, it allows you to get about two inches higher off the ground then had you not swung your arms. If executed correctly, you will see just how much higher off the ground you are capable of getting and how it helps you to make the kill.
